When you are ready to contact the airfield operators, you will need to show that:
Email the details to us at [email protected]
- you understand the relevant air laws
- you know exactly where you will be flying your drone or model
- you will have an observer supporting you
- you can guarantee to operate within the height limit the operators will set - usually 300 feet (90 metres) above the surface
- the exact location of your intended flight (enough detail to pinpoint the GPS co-ordinates - such as a street address, or a Google Maps screen shot with the location marked)
- the date, time and duration
- the distance that your drone or model will travel from the launch point
- the height above the surface that you wish to operate at.

Advice and guidance:
- Civil Aviation Authority publishes guidance on the rules and best practices for flying drones - https://www.aviation.govt.nz/drones
- You may find it worth joining Model Flying New Zealand (MFNZ) who can put you in touch with a local club where you can get training, if appropriate, and get advice while perhaps meeting other drone or model flyers. MFNZ also provides insurance cover for its members.
Happy - and safe - drone flying!
